Refractive Surgery

Why Refractive Surgery?

More than 50 million Americans suffer from some sort of refractive error. A refractive error is when light entering the eye doesn't focus clearly on the retina, so what you see is blurred. How do you know if you're affected?

If you already wear glasses or contacts and are experiencing blurred vision, you may be a candidate for refractive surgery. If you don't wear glasses or contacts but find yourself squinting to read signs, you may also be a candidate.

Refractive errors fall into three main types:

Nearsightedness (myopia) results when light is focused in-front of the retina and distant objects may be blurred.

Farsightedness (hyperopia) results when light is focused behind the retina and near and distant objects may be blurred.

Astigmatism results when an irregularly shaped cornea scatters light on the retina and both near and far vision are blurred.

Treatments We Provide

Photorefractive Keratotomy (PRK) is performed for moderate nearsightedness and astigmatism with an excimer laser on the surface of the cornea.

Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is a painless procedure using radio frequency energy instead of a laser to improve your near vision (farsightedness).

LASIK and epi-LASIK are advanced procedures that produce the results of PRK using the 'cool' light of an excimer laser immediately beneath the surface of the corneal tissue.

What is Your Next Step?

The fact you are reading this indicates we have either been recommended by your physician, your Optometrist, one of our former patients or you decided to enquire yourself. Whatever the reason, we are pleased you did. The next step is to phone our receptionist, who will listen to your inquiry and, if you wish, arrange an appointment for you to meet with Dr. Dotson.
